Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie G. Bunch III to appear at Headliners Book Event, 10 am Dec. 9

Lonnie G. Bunch III, the 14th Secretary of the Smithsonian and the first African-American to hold the office in its nearly 175-year history, will discuss his vision for the institution and sign copies of his recent book, “A Fool’s Errand: Creating the National Museum of African American History and Culture in the Age of Bush, Obama and Trump,” at a National Press Club Headliners event Monday, Dec. 9, at 10 a.m.

A Veterans Day remembrance: Club's history closely linked to those who served

Veterans Day is a time to remember the hundreds of the National Press Club members who served in the nation's armed forces. Many prominent members were once citizen soldiers, including Club presidents who served in World War I and II and Vietnam. Others were on the front lines as war correspondents.

Four of the Club's rooms are named for World War II veterans: Frank Holeman, John Cosgrove, Peter Lisagor, and Sarah McClendon.

James Beard Award-winning Chef Edward Lee will regale diners with his tales of America's melting pot cuisines at a five-course book and bourbon dinner at the Fourth Estate restaurant on Tuesday, Dec. 17.

Lee won recognition from James Beard Foundation for his book, "Buttermilk Graffiti: A Chef’s Journey to Discover America’s New Melting Pot Cuisine." The book tells of his two-year, cross-country journey to discover the culinary culture clashes that led to exciting new American dishes. Interspersed with the narrative are 40 recipes that recreate the new dishes for the home cook.

he National Press Club will present the Washington premiere screening of the 90-minute public television documentary, “Guru Nanak: The Founder of Sikhism--Life and Legacy," the story of the founder of the world’s fifth largest religion, on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m.

The screening will be preceded by a reception at 6 p.m. A panel discussion with the film participants, moderated by Club President and Associated Press investigations editor Alison Kodjak, will follow.
